Tomatis: is the progress lasting?

The Tomatis method is a highly effective approach to improving auditory function by restoring balance to the auditory system. Using low-frequency filtered music, the method improves listening skills safely and non-invasively, which leads to lasting progress. It is carried out under the supervision of qualified professionals and has been shown to be an effective form of auditory rehabilitation.

Is the progress made during Tomatis sessions lasting?

Yes, the progress made during Tomatis® sessions lasts, for the simple reason that it does not come from conditioning but from a return to balance. People come to a Tomatis® centre for a wide variety of reasons, but these always correspond to a dysfunction, and so to a more or less pronounced state of neurophysiological imbalance.

Work with the electronic ear therefore tends to bring the person back to a state of balance which, being normal, takes far less effort than any more or less dysfunctional state. We therefore find that, in the vast majority of cases, the progress made during the sessions is not only maintained but can continue afterwards, once the process of development has been restored to normal.

How does the brain store what it has learnt?

From a neuroscience point of view, learning and memory involve changes in the structure and function of the brain's nerve cells. When the brain meets new information, it creates new connections between nerve cells, a process known as neuroplasticity. These new connections allow the brain to process, store and retrieve the new information more efficiently. The Tomatis method works by stimulating the auditory cortex, which is responsible for processing sound. By restoring balance to the auditory system, the method allows the brain to process sound more efficiently, which improves listening skills. Because the brain stores this new learning, it can easily be retrieved and used in the future.

Unlock your full listening potential with the Tomatis method. Our safe, non-invasive approach restores balance to the auditory system, leading to lasting progress and better listening skills. Take the first step towards better listening and book your assessment today!
