Deafness and Tomatis: can it help me?
The Tomatis® Method brings no improvement in hearing when hearing loss is caused by irreversible damage. However, by regulating the fluids of the inner ear, it can improve the perception of certain frequencies. For hearing loss, we get better results by combining the Tomatis® method with laser phototherapy. Find out more about this protocol, the only one of its kind in Switzerland, by clicking on this link.
Hearing loss: a clinical case treated between October 2019 and May 2020.
In the image below, you can see how effective the treatment was, with an improved response at frequencies between 2,500 and 8,000 Hz.

What types of deafness do you get results with?
We get results with conductive and sensorineural hearing loss, but we do not treat profound deafness.
What causes hearing loss?
- Noise exposure: long exposure to loud noise can damage the hair cells of the inner ear and lead to hearing loss.
- Age-related hearing loss (presbycusis): as we get older, the hair cells in our ears naturally deteriorate, which leads to hearing loss.
- Ototoxic medicines: some medicines can be toxic to the ear and lead to hearing loss.
- Ear infections: infections of the middle ear can damage the eardrum or the bones of the middle ear and lead to hearing loss.
- Trauma: an injury to the head or ear can damage the ear and lead to hearing loss.
- Genetics: some forms of hearing loss are hereditary and caused by genetic mutations.
- Medical conditions: some medical conditions, such as diabetes, can lead to hearing loss.
- Tumours: tumours in the ear or on the auditory nerve can lead to hearing loss.
- Congenital conditions: some people are born with hearing loss due to congenital conditions.
- Blockages: earwax or other blockages in the ear can cause hearing loss by preventing sound waves from reaching the inner ear.
