I came to the Tomatis centre in July 2019 for my daughter Léa, who was in 7P (the second-to-last year of primary school) and was having difficulties with foreign languages, namely English and German.
I wanted to make sure she could catch up before starting lower secondary school (the cycle d'orientation in Geneva), which is why I turned to the Tomatis method.
Léa has always been sensitive to noise, and apart from languages she has no particular difficulties at school. But she struggles with listening comprehension, reading and understanding texts.
Mr Frère suggested a treatment made up of several listening sessions of 13 days each. Here are the changes I noticed in Léa after the first session.
Léa was very diligent and willing about her session. Before this first session, she was very touchy; afterwards, this lessened a great deal. I also noticed that she had developed a real joie de vivre, and she now finds it easier to express what she feels. I also found her more involved in family life. She told me she understood me better, heard me better.
After a one-month break, we did a second 13-day session. And again the changes surprised me! This time, she really gained confidence. She took up sports she hadn't dared to try before: ball games and table tennis. I noticed she was more at ease and better coordinated. As for the “languages” goal, it has already been reached: her marks went from 4–4.5 to 5.5–6 (out of 6), and I can see much better comprehension, reading and expression.
And my daughter, who used to be rather reserved, is now her class representative!
